Update Reports on Action Item:
· LDAP search tool (Dave Goldhammer): Dave has built a command line search tool, based on a perl script that Mike Carter had written. Dave formats the output much like the white pages abbreviated listing. Everything has tested out well except for inconsistent results on the search string “ding”. A couple of attributes that are used by the white pages are not available to anonymous query (and the search tool). Melinda will look into these. As soon as the search tool is ready for the CaUS machines, notification needs to go out to the campus (Phil will send a notice to the SysAdmin list, notice should be forwarded to Kate Gilbreath for Tier 2 and Dave will send a notice to the list of people that he identified as users of 411).
· Failover mechanism (Melinda, Andy, Goldhammer): AIS and CaUS are drafting both short-term and long-term plans. Plans should be ready early next week. Replication is in place although it is not secure. Secure replication has been figured out and will be put in place.
· UMS and UCB directory referrals (Melinda): UMS is working on a test. Kent is finishing up a project and will be able to refocus on this. AIS is helping with the synching of IDs between UMS and the directory.
· Authorization proof of concept (Dan): This project needs to be formalized. It will require representation from AIS (Burton), Account Provisioning (Jon), Directory Services (Melinda) and the IT Architect (Bob). We already have requests for applications to use authorization. The project will also encompass the issues of groups and roles.
· Self Update & Sponsored Entry (Pat, Melinda): These initiatives have moved down the timeline (to mid-summer).
· Birthday message (Melinda): Spec with the list of attributes and outline should be ready for Web Comm. today.
· Buff OneCard-directory interface (Larry, Melinda): AIS has the archived pictures with daily updates (archive was less than 3GB, total, about 60,000 photos, is estimated at 5 GB). AIS has developed a proof of concept tool for serving up the pictures in two different sizes. The pictures are being put into a postgres database, stored as blobs. Postgres was chosen over Oracle because of licensing and security issues.
·
Zip plus 4 (Burton, Melinda): Barb Todd submitted a request to UMS for the
clean up of the zip plus 4zeroes for housing students. Melinda will check on the status of the
request.
Future of Core Team
The Core team discussed how to proceed as a Core Team and agreed upon the following:
· Directory initiative work would be better handled by smaller groups (subgroups of the Core Team), built specifically for the specific initiative.
· Standing monthly meetings will no longer be held. However, it is recommended that the 1:30-3:30, second-Monday-of-the-month be kept available for meetings as needed by initiative-specific task force meetings.
· The core group email list should be kept and used extensively for team-wide communication, initiative updates, document review, question/answer, etc. A monthly update (“directory newsletter”) was recommended.
· Concerns were expressed about the loss of roundtable communication and big picture viewpoint.
Miscellaneous
· iPlanet is now all handled through Sun as “SunOne”. There is no more iplanet.com web site.
· June 3rd, UCB will be hosting a multi-campus directory services technical workshop in the Seminar Room (9-3).
