via email by September 22nd, 2008

 

 

Human bondage was an accepted part of life in the ancient Mediterranean.  This conference aims to explore all aspects of slavery in the Greek and Roman worlds.  Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

 

 

  • archaeological evidence for slavery
  • epigraphical evidence
  • the philosophy of slavery
  • urban vs. rural slavery
  • means of restraint/punishment
  • comparative studies of slavery
  • slave revolts
  • slave supply/trade
  • public slaves

 

 

Talks should be 30 minutes in length.
