Sibyl Edwards (BA 1995) is enjoying life as a first-year graduate student in the Classics Department of the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Kendra Ettenhofer (MA 1989), teacher of Latin and Spanish at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, has been elected vice-president of the American Classical League. As vice-president, Kendra is responsible for planning the program for the ACL annual meeting to be held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in June, 1997.

Sherwin Little (MAT 1990) Latin teacher at Indian Hill High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, joined Kay Fluharty, Latin teacher at Madeira High School near Cincinnati, and Barbara Hill of CU to give a presentation on teaching Latin to students with foreign language learning difficulties at the Illinois Classical Caucus/National-Louis University Pedagogy Workshop in July. Along with Richard Sparks and Leonore Ganschow, Sherwin and Kay are co-authors of a significant article on the teaching of Latin that appeared recently in The Classical Journal.

Dorothy Rohner (Ph.D. 1993) was hired to a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina, Ashville, starting fall, 1996. Her teaching assignments include Greek History, Humanities and Art History.

CAMWS 1997

Early in October, Professors Greg Daughtery of Randolph-Macon College, Secretary-Treasurer of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS), and Helena Detmer, President of the Association, visited Boulder to finalize arrangements for the Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held April 2-5, 1997 at the Regal Harvest House Hotel, which will be the site for most functions. On the afternoon of Friday, April 4 the venue will shift to CU. Paper sessions, including the Presidential Panel, will be held in the University Memorial Center.

With the support of the Dean of Arts & Sciences, the Vice-Chancellor and the Chancellor, the Department will host a reception for members of CAMWS at the Leanin' Tree Museum of Western Art.

Co-chairs of the Local Planning Committee are Barbara Hill, Joy King, and Peter Knox. Further details about the program of events will be available early in the spring. General information about the meeting is available on the World Wide Web at:

A New Latin Program

Alexis DuBrul, Ph.D. student, has been hired to begin the Latin program at the new University of Denver High School in Denver. This year she will teach Latin I to a group of freshmen and sophomores

in this innovative private high school, and next year she will add Latin II to the curriculum.

FACULTY ON TOUR

Professor T. Hara Tzavella-Evjen conducted an educational tour of Greece this past summer for a group of friends and alumni of the University. The trip, which was sponsored by the CU Museum, focused on archaeological sites and museums. The tour began with a week visiting landmarks in and around Athens, including the Acropolis, the Athenian Agora, the National Museum, Sounion, and Marathon.

The following week included stops at the Palace of Minos, Malia, Phaistos, Agia Triada and Gortys on Crete and Akrotiri on Santorini. The final week was spent back on the mainland, featuring visits to Thebes, Delphi, Nauplion, Mycenae, Tiryns and Epidaurus. In addition to on-site lectures on archaeology, art history, and mythology, Prof. Evjen shared her knowledge of modern Greek history and literature, native flora, and folk tales.
