Spectroscopic Studies of Nanostructured Materials and Microorganisms.

Scientific efforts in Professor Rowlen’s group are best described by three research areas:  1)  bioanalytical chemistry, 2) photonics and nanotechnology, and 3) fundamental studies of  organic thin film structure.  Students use a wide range of spectroscopic techniques, including: photoacoustic, Raman, fluorescence, and second-harmonic generation.  Other hands on experience includes atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron-beam lithography, photolithography, ellipsometry, and contact angle measurements.
