"UCB Wireless" is the new SSID

The new service can be identified by the SSID (or Network Name) "UCB Wireless." If you see this SSID, you can select it and connect to the UCB Wireless network.

The only difference that users will notice when switching from the existing wireless network on campus will be the IP range assigned to users. Users may be given an IP address anywhere in this range: 172.21.176.x - 172.21.253.x. Anyone who is restricting access to their services by IP address as a means for assuring that they are only accessed from on-campus should allow that address space too since it is only routed locally. When
on-campus wireless clients try to reach off-campus Internet services these private addresses are translated (using Network Address Translation, or NAT) to public IP addresses of 128.138.64.x. Off-campus service providers may need this address range.

Now that each building's UCB Wireless network is working, all other wireless access points need to be removed from the network. Each building should have full wireless coverage in all occupied space. If you know of an area that does not have adequate coverage, please report it to the IT Service Center at 303-735-HELP (5-4357 from an on-campus phone).

In future phases of the wireless project authentication processes will be changed. Further information will be published on this web site as it becomes available.

Virtual Machine Documentation

The testing of the new wireless service revealed a connection problem for virtual machines that didn’t exist with the previous wireless service. ITS is working with the vendor to correct this, but in the meantime, documentation on how to work around this problem is available:
