Barracuda Appliances Overview

Barracuda spam firewalls are the frontline defense against spam and viral e-mail for the majority of the campus’ mail servers. Last year the daily spam volume doubled and has only been increasing. Currently CU Boulder receives roughly 4 million messages daily, 85% of which can be considered spam and are blocked. Of the remaining messages that are not blocked, 50% are tagged as potential spam. Spammers’ tactics are constantly evolving so the spam firewalls are updated every hour to maintain their effectiveness against the newest threats.

Impact of Daylight Saving Time Change on this Technology

The spam firewalls have been updated with DST changes since October 2006.
