CULink Calendar

CULink General Information and E-mail Accounts

What is CULink?

CULink is an e-mail and calendaring service that also includes an address book and task list. CULink will be available to faculty, staff and students on the CU-Boulder campus at no-cost.

How do I access CULink?

CULink is available via CUConnect using your IdentiKey or through one of many e-mail clients that support the secure IMAP protocol including Outlook, Apple Mail, Entourage, Eudora, and Thunderbird. CULink is also accessible by going directly to https://culink.colorado.edu.

What if I don't know my IdentiKey password?

It's easy to reset your IdentiKey password if you've forgotten it. Just go to the IdentiKey Information page and click on the "Login and reset it" link.

I'm on a different ITS e-mail server (e.g. spot.colorado.edu, ucsu.colorado.edu, rintintin.colorado.edu), and I want to be on CULink, how do I do that?

You can manually migrate your e-mail from your current server to culink.colorado.edu. To learn more contact the IT Service Center.

If you want to keep reading your mail on one of these servers there are a couple of things to keep in mind when sending e-mail:

  1. You will need to set your re-write (what you want your outgoing mail address to look like) in your e-mail program.
  2. You will need to qualify all your outgoing mail in the form of user@colorado.edu or First.Last@colorado.edu. If you choose to qualify your mail to user@server.colorado.edu, please be sure that you actually read mail on the specified server, as there is the possibility for your mail to reach an unread mailbox by addressing mail in this manner.

What is Authenticated SMTP?

Authenticated SMTP indicates that you must log in (authenticate) to send mail (SMTP). Requiring Authenticated SMTP will force the e-mail program to log in to send mail as well as receive mail. As you may imagine, allowing computers to send mail without logging in can open a floodgate should that computer become infected with a spam program or worm. This is a required e-mail program change in order to use CULink. Learn how to enable authenticated SMTP.

How do I check my quota for CULink?

You can check your quota for CULink by logging into the web client via CUConnect, or going directly to https://culink.colorado.edu. The quota is displayed in the header (total allowable quota, and percentage used).

CULink Calendar

Can I use CULink now for calendaring?

Yes. You can use CULink now for personal calendaring. The ability to invite others to events, schedule groups of people, and use resources is coming during fall 2007 or spring 2008.

Note: If you use CULink calendar today, event cancellation notifications may not be delivered and result in a bounced back message. For more information, see the CULink Known Issues page.

What are calendar resources?

Resources are typically conference rooms or group meeting spaces, equipment, or other items that people can schedule.

Is WebCal going away? If so, when?

ITS needs to first ensure that CULink is ready for people to invite others to events, schedule groups of people, and use resources. This work will occur during the fall of 2007.

Once CULink is ready, there will be a period when both calendars will be available for users to move their events from WebCal to CULink.

Can I stay on WebCal?

WebCal will be available through a period of time after CULink calendar is fully operational. if possible, ITS encourages you to move your personal calendar today to CULink. WebCal will eventually be turned off.

How will my calendar data get moved?

Individual users:
You can use CULink today for scheduling your own events. If you have existing events in WebCal, you may choose to copy them from WebCal into CULink. A recommended method is to open two browser windows side-by-side and copy the events from calendar to calendar one at a time. Another method is to pick a date in the near future and start scheduling all events past that date in CULink.

Departmental users:
CULink is available today for personal calendaring. Group and resource calendaring is coming soon. When using resources is available, ITS will contact departments currently using WebCal resources to discuss migrating your resources to CULink. ITS will provide assistance with migrating resources.

Departments will be responsible for migrating already scheduled events and coordinting their departmental migration to CULink. A recommended method is to open two browser windows side-by-side and copy the events from calendar to calendar one at a time. Another method is to pick a date in the near future and start scheduling all events past that date in CULink.

Will ITS support syncing calendars to personal devices such as PDAs, mobile phones, etc.?

Due to the demand for this functionality, ITS will be looking into the feasibility of supporting syncing CULink calendars with personal devices. ITS, however, does not currently support this.

Can I have multiple calendars in CULink?

You will only have one calendar within CULink. However, when resource calendaring is available in CULink, you will be able to request additional calendars for resources (rooms, projectors, etc.).

Can I publish my calendar on the Internet for anybody to see?

No. You can only share your calendar with other CULink users.

Where do I go if I have additional questions?
