Register: Create an Online Course

Requesting A Course:
Please submit a course request through CUConnect. To do this:

  1. Select the Course tab.

  2. Within the Faculty Course Toolkit, select the course that you want to be available in CULearn.

  3. From the individual course page, you will be able select Request CULearn Course

The course request application will be pre-populated with the course information. The Course Toolkit will show future courses; therefore you can request courses well in advance. If your course is not listed, contact the IT Service Center.

ITS recommends that instructors using CULearn for the first time attend Introduction to CULearn workshop. If you have not completed the Designer Basics Workshop, please sign-up for the next available session.  If there are no sessions posted, please contact ITStraining@Colorado.EDU.

NOTE: You are not required to have a registered CULearn course before you take the Introduction to CULearn workshop; however, if you want to make specific changes to your course, you should request one in advance.

Return users:
Courses up to two years prior can be used as a template for the current term.

Registration FAQs

Q: What does "cross-listed" mean?

A: Having multiple sections "cross-listed" means that you will have one CULearn course, with students from all sections (that you designate) on the roster for that one CULearn course. This is advantageous if your course section materials on CULearn are the same, because you will not need to create and maintain two separate courses. Cross-listed sections would also mean that students from both sections can participate in the same discussions.

If you do not want your students to interact across sections in CULearn you may not want the sections cross-listed.

Q: Do I have to fill out separate registration forms for each of my courses?

A: Yes, each CULearn course must be requested on a separate registration form. If you are teaching two sections of a course and do not want them cross-listed, those different sections also need separate registration forms.

Q: How do I restrict access to my course while I'm working on it?

A: There are two ways that you can control access:

1. After the students have been enrolled in your course, you may deny access to all students. You must remember, though, to grant access again to the students when you are ready. To deny access, go to Manage Students. In the drop down menu select the action "Deny student access" click "GO". It will ask you to confirm your choice, and that's it. When students attempt to enter the course, they will see a page that says "Access Denied".

2. Hide the links to content that you do not want students to access. Again, you will need to remember to "unhide" those links as soon as you want students to access that content in your course.

Q: What about waitlisted students?

A: Waitlisted students will still have access to your CULearn course, but they will show up in your roster as waitlisted.

Q: How do I add students who enroll late?

A: Students will be added and dropped throughout the add-drop period in accordance with University policy. When they are added or dropped there will be a two to three day lag time before the change is made in CULearn.

If you find out that a student has not been enrolled in your CULearn course, email webct@colorado.edu.
