Center For Asian Studies Graduate Research Assistant for Events Position
The Center for Asian Studies is now hiring a graduate student to join the CAS staff as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Spring 2010 semester. There will be the possibility of renewal for the Fall 2010 semester.
Duties include:
- Planning and logistics for the CAS Speaker Series, CAS Luncheon Series, and other events
- General office assistance for CAS
Candidates should be reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented. Prior experience with event planning and a demonstrated academic interest in Asia preferred.
Beginning in the spring, this will be a standard 50% RA position with an expectation of 20 hours of work per week. The position pays a monthly stipend and also carries an 18-credit tuition waiver. A training period will begin November 9 and will provide hourly compensation with no tuition waiver through the last week of the fall semester.

Center For Asian Studies Graduate Research Assistant for Data and Communications Position
The Center for Asian Studies is looking for a graduate student in a field related to Asian Studies to join the CAS staff as a Graduate Research Assistant for Data Collection and Communications to begin immediately and work through the remainder of the 2009-10 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for subsequent semesters. This is a standard 50% RA position with an expectation of 20 hours a work per week. The position pays a monthly stipend and also carries a 50% tuition waiver.
Duties include:
Data Collection to assist with grant reporting:
- Maintenance of up-to-date information about Asian Studies faculty and courses and event spreadsheet with attendance numbers.
- Cooperation with various entities on campus to gather necessary statistics and other information.
- Maintenance of CAS database; entering and updating information as necessary.
Communication:
- Maintenance of CAS website; formatting and website design, keeping links current, adding information, etc.
- Distribution of email announcements to CAS constituencies.
Daily support to CAS staff:
- Small research projects as needed.
- Assistance with CAS Executive Board meetings.
- Assistance with planning for Asia Day and other CAS events.
Reporting:
- Preparation and dissemination of regular reports updating data for CAS Director and other staff.
Must be organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated. This person will perform without significant direct daily supervision. Work will be reviewed regularly for satisfactory progress. Demonstrated academic interest in Asia preferred.
