Discover Indonesia and its diverse cultures. We will focus on five major islands of the archipelago.
Learn about the Dutch and Japanese occupations in this fourth most populous country in the world.
Have a conversation with guest speakers about Islam in Indonesia, Hinduism in Bali, music among the
Bataks in North Sumatra, the matrilineal culture of the Minangkabau in West Sumatra, working among the
Dayak Iban in Kalimantan, and the politics of Indonesia today.
Create a project on any topic from the five islands, find out what links the U.S. and Indonesia,
and share your findings with your classmates.

Join the others who are from Indonesia and/or interested in Indonesia at the monthly Indonesian
Potluck. Enjoy shared meals and great conversations. Join the class and broaden your perspective about
world cultures and make your resume impressive!
