Persia and Persian are not just exotic words. It is true that Persia was an ancient country and, according to Hegel (1770-1831), the first Empire in the world established by Cyrus the great in 550 B.C.; however, the land which was once named by the Greeks and the Romans as Persia is now known as Iran, and Persian/Farsi is a modern language spoken in Iran, a country that plays a crucial political role in the Persian Gulf region and Middle East. Persian language also is spoken in Afghanistan (Dari dialect), Tajikistan (Tajik dialect), and some other parts of the Central Asia. It’s no wonder that Persian is currently considered a “strategic” language!
As an Indo-European language, Persian (Farsi) is grammatically close to English. Plus, there’s no gender! Furthermore, Persian is language of a very rich culture and literature. Are you interested in reading Rumi, (1207-1273) the great Sufi poet of love in his mother tongue?
