Managing files in Windows 98 using Windows Explorer.

1. Windows 98 file structure and terms.

a. Tree View

b. List View

c. Address Bar. I usually turn this off, by going to the VIEW menu and then the Toolbars submenu. Down arrow to "address bar" and if it is checked, press ENTER on it to close the menus and uncheck the address bar.

d. Tool Bar. This is the "folders" toolbar. The only thing visible on it is a "close button", which you land on when you press TAB as you cycle through your choices here. I have not figured out a way to "skip over" this tab stop while moving in TAB order.

2. Navigating windows explorer. Use TAB or SHIFT+TAB to move from section to section. In the Tree view, press ENTER or RIGHT ARROW to open a closed folder, and LEFT ARROW to close an opened folder. Press TAB to move to the list view and view files or subfolders. In the LIST view, if you are on a folder, press Enter and the folder will open and reveal the list view of any files in that folder.

3. Create a "temp" folder in the C drive.

4. Using the Find dialog to locate files or folders.

5. Selecting contiguous and non-contiguous files.

6. Moving or deleting files.

7. Formatting and copying diskettes. With a diskette in floppy drive A, press Shift+F10, and you get a context menu that contains, among other things: copy, format, add to zip, and others.
