PBK Spring 2006 Minutes

 

Attending: Jerry Peterson, Lori Goodman, Nancy Watson, Marlyn Spelman, Ellen Frozien, Michael Wertheimer, William Adams, Megan Burgess.

 

I.  Report of Secretary:  $260,000 endowment as of last time.  Haven’t tapped funds for initiation.  May raise initiation fee.  Breaking even now.

 

II.  CRISP:  Two applicants.  Kelsi Singer $7,500.  She can defer for one year.  Will be attending Washington University, St. Louis for astrobiology.  First year to require membership to PBK.

 

III.  Rowski, Thomas visiting scholar.  Contacted Asian studies department and board agreed.  Approval to split with department – Majority in favor.  Total cost about $1,000.

 

IV.  Visit from national sent out an inspector general.

            Fall 04 13% invite/accept

            Spr 05 17%

            Fall 05 32% (difference is e mail)

            Spr 06 504 candidates invited with 185 acceptances

 

V.  Constitution is out of date.  National is bugging us.  Need a committee to revise.  (Jerry and Marlyn)

 

VI.             Need to update list of all A&S major 4 letter abbreviations.

 

VII.          Election of new members:  Jerry Peterson was again elected President for a 3 year term.

 

VIII.       Corey Wall in registrar’s office will be running our computer program to generate names for admissions.  We discussed and approved changing the requirements for admission to become more compatible with this new process.  We will now consider students who have at least half of their credits from CU-Boulder and who meet the following GPA and hour requirements: 90 hours at 3.85+ and 100 hours at 3.7+.   Jerry then deletes current members and judicial affairs and names on honor code violations from this list.  Violations include honor code convictions, and cases of  violence, theft, forgery from judicial affairs.  Single alcohol violation OK, one fire violation OK, RAP sheets reviewed.  Lori noted who was able to stay in/out.  Will send out invites.   In future, $60 request to register can advance process by one month.  Vote to invite people with violations discussed.

Proposal to wait until more credit hours for simplicity.  A&S puts people on deans list at 3.75.  Motion #1 New criteria be (YES VOTES, see above)

 

Amended to be 3.85 per 90 CH ˝ Boulder or 100 per 3.7 GPA  delete 95CH  Unanimous  YES vote.

 

Minutes:  Motion to approve minutes with correction to name spelling.
