University of Colorado Boulder Department of Applied Mathematics

The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for the position of Instructor to begin in Fall 2012. The appointment is for an initial term of three years, and is renewable. The department seeks a person who is prepared to teach a range of undergraduate Applied Mathematics courses including classes for Engineering Honors Students (classes of between 20 and 40 students), sections of large lower division classes (between 90 and 150 students): Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3 and Differential Equations/Linear Algebra, and other undergraduate classes as needed.

Required qualifications include a PhD in the Mathematical Sciences, or a closely related field, and experience in teaching at the university level using research-validated pedagogy. The successful candidate will also be expected to help facilitate the redevelopment and modernization of courses including the infusion of technology, student centered assessments, e.g. orals, and the development of new undergraduate courses.

The teaching load for this appointment is 6 semester courses per academic year. The individual hired will join a campus community of faculty engaged in course transformation activities. Further, it is expected that the successful candidate will participate in obtaining grant support for curricular and pedagogical improvements. This latter is part of the 25% service commitment associated with this appointment.
