Boulder Campus: Timely Approval of Faculty Appointments
- Due to their long-term nature, initial hiring actions for tenured and tenure-track faculty will not start without prior approval from the Chancellor.
- All other faculty appointments including administrative appointments and teaching hires reported on the Deans' Report are allowed to have a start date any time during the month prior to the Delegation Report (e.g. for the December 1 report, hires with a start date of November 1 or later are considered timely). It is understood that an offer letter has been signed by the prospective employee and the appointing authority prior to the start date of the appointment; that offer letter must indicate that employment is conditional upon approval of the Chancellor and that the recipient agrees to that condition.
- Professional exempt appointments in Academic Affairs will follow the same requirements as non-tenure-track faculty appointments listed above.
- Appointments starting earlier than the month before the Delegation Report require the Dean to justify and to request written approval from the Chancellor.
- Appointments at the start of each regular semester will be timely if included on the reports with effective date of October 1 and March 1.
- Addenda to faculty or professional exempt appointments may have an effective date anytime during the month prior to the Delegation Report.
- No individual receives pay prior to the Chancellor approving his/her appointment. In the rare event that an appointment begins prior to the Chancellor’s approval and then is rejected by the Chancellor, the appointment will be terminated with payment made for work already completed.
- Summer research payments for regular faculty are approved by the Chancellor at month's end.
- Research faculty (job class 1300) appointments are not governed by these guidelines.
