CU:

Classified Staff Requesting Teaching Appointments

A written request must be made of the Chair/Director of the department, and approved by the Chair/Director and by the appropriate Associate Dean, each semester or academic year that a classified staff member wishes to teach. The request may be submitted either prior to or at the same time the teaching offer (or overload request) is sent to the Dean's office.

In the written request the staff member must include:

  1. his/her percentage of classified staff appointment,
  2. the course or courses that will be taught (dept/course/section), including the meeting pattern(s),
  3. an estimate of the time that will be consumed by the teaching activities that takes away from the staff member's usual duties, including preparation, copying, teaching, grading, etc., and
  4. the specific method by which the time away from classified staff duties will be handled.

Once approved by the Chair/Director, the request is to be sent to Bernadette Stewart in the Dean's office at 275 UCB. She will obtain approval/denial from the Associate Dean and return a copy to the department's program assistant for distribution to the Chair/Director, to the classified staff member, and to the A&S HR Center. Copies of approvals also are to be kept in the staff member's personnel files at the College and department levels.
