Part-time Instructors - General Process
Letters of offer for part-time instructors (appointments of less than 100% time) need not be sent via e-mail first. However, if you wish, Susan Sires (Susan.Sires@colorado.edu) will give them a quick review. Both the chair and the candidate sign before the letter is sent to the Dean's office. The instructor must be aware that the offer is unofficial until the Dean has signed his approval. Submit a copy of the candidate's vita along with the printed letter.
Appointments are to be approved by the Chancellor prior to the start date of employment. However, in order to accommodate last minute changes that are a natural part of the start of a semester, the deadline for submitting an accepted letter to the Dean's office for Fall appointments is September 1, and February 1 for Spring. A more complete explanation of submission requirements is on the web at: http://www.colorado.edu/ArtsSciences/facultystaff/administration/sampletimelines.html.
NOTE: Summer is separate from the academic year and has different requirements. Most summer instructors are regular tenure-track or instructor faculty members whose credentials are well known. Therefore, letters of offer for summer are exempt from the requirement to include a copy of the vita and/or letters of recommendation.
