Updated 3/07
(taken from the Provost's "Call for Nominations" memo and the Distinguished Professors' Committee Statement)
Submit two notebooks: one original and one copy. ALL MATERIALS MUST ALSO BE SENT ELECTRONICALLY VIA E-MAIL IN PDF FORMAT. Do not place materials in plastic sleeves, copy back-to-back, or staple pages. Do not submit books or originals of articles.
The University Distinguished Professor dossier's contents are to be ordered as follows:
- ___ Recommendation of the Dean (added by the Dean's office)
- ___ Curriculum Vitae of the Nominee
- ___ Recommendation of Chair and/or Faculty Evaluation. Include standards and measures of excellence used within the field, the nominee's role in grants and publications, and the nominee's standing in his/her area of specialization and in the broader field within which it is situated.
- ___ Assessment of Research or Creative Work: Outside Letters of Support. A maximum of eight letters. Inserted in front of the letters include one page with a one-paragraph biography (not a complete CV) for each external referee.
- ___ Report of Professional Activities. Only the most recent one, filed through the annual process.
- ___ Assessment of Teaching/Teaching Materials/FCQs. Some things to consider including are:
- How many graduate students has the person trained? Where have they found positions?
- How many undergraduate students did the professor have working in the lab (when laboratory research is pertinent)?
- How many undergraduate and graduate students does the person teach in a typical year? What has been the impact of his/her teaching?
- ___ Student Letters of Support. Maximum of six letters from former undergraduate or graduate students are required. Inserted in front of the letters you may include one page with a one-paragraph biography (not a complete CV) for each former student.
- ___ Assessment of Service. Include no more than three letters describing service contributions.
Nominators may also want to consult the descriptive materials that are issued to those preparing dossiers for tenure and/or promotion consideration, available on the web at: http://www.colorado.edu/ArtsSciences/facultystaff/administration/reapptpromoten.html. Those materials contain suggestions on how to build a strong dossier for tenure or promotion, and some of those suggestions also will be pertinent in preparing a case for promotion to University Distinguished Professor.
