Closed or Targeted Search
These searches are aimed at hiring one particular person without doing a larger search.
The chair writes a detailed letter of request to the Dean, explaining why the search should be closed. If money is needed for the closed search, it should be stated in your letter of request. Include a faculty vote. The Dean will get approval from the Provost.
We'll still need a vita and 3 letters of recommendation, and of course the letter of offer.
