Leaves and Replacement

Review: What is Leaves and Replacements?

Leaves & Replacements (L/R) is a program maintained by the College of Arts & Sciences. L/R is a method for capturing unused budget (i.e. salary savings) and then those funds on an as-needed basis. All transactions within L/R are temporary budget transfers.

For instance, if a Professor goes on AY Sabbatical and receives half-pay, the College recaptures the budget for the unused portion of his/her salary, also known as Salary Savings. If the same department needs to hire an Instructor to replace the Professor during the sabbatical, the department must request replacement funding and, if approved, the College allocates the needed amount to the department via L/R as temporary budget.

Please note that L/R allocations do not occur automatically each year. Each year, the department must review their budgetary needs and request needed budget from their Associate Dean. Departments are able to view their Leaves and Replacements report via A&S Web Based Reports (contact Louis Dimmitt for password).
