CU:

3/9ths Calculator

MEMORANDUM

Attached is a spreadsheet intended to assist you in the implementation of the 3/9ths rule. The spreadsheet is designed to assist you with the following calculations:

The spreadsheet is protected to ensure you don't accidentally erase a formula. Information can only be entered in the blue highlighted cells.

Enter the academic year salary for your faculty member to begin the process. Based on that amount, the spreadsheet will calculate the 3/9ths limit, the 1/9ths limit and prorate the amounts for both August and May.

To active the chair stipend calculation, click into cell K3. An arrow will appear to the right of the cell. Click on the arrow and a drop-down box will appear with the choices Yes/No. Click on 'Yes' and the spreadsheet will calculate the monthly rate as well as prorate that amount for both August and May.

The spreadsheet also contains a section to determine the monthly amount a faculty member will receive each month of a teaching appointment. Since all summer terms except Maymester begin in one month and end in a different month, you'll need to determine the amount earned in each month to ensure the faculty member complies with the 1/9th limit. PS allows for either the contract or the monthly method of payment so I've included a separate section for each of these options. Simply fill in the amount as well as the begin and end date of the term and the spreadsheet will do the rest.

This Excel spreadsheet uses the NETWORKDAYS function. If you get an error message when you enter begin or end dates, you may need to turn on the Analysis ToolPak. This is very easy to do. First, select Add-ins from the Tools menu. Check the box next to Analysis ToolPak and click OK. That should install the needed function.

Let me know if you have any questions concerning this spreadsheet.
