Associate Chair/Associate Faculty Director Appointments
Associate Chairs/Associate Faculty Directors
Selection of incoming associate chairs/directors should be completed during Spring semester or over the summer so that the appointment may be accepted by the candidate and approved by the Chancellor prior to the end of July for an August start date. Occasionally there will be times that an offer cannot be made in time to meet the return deadline. Those letters will need a short, written explanation detailing the timing. Be aware that a retro-active start date may not be granted, and the faculty member's stipend will be adjusted downward to match the approved period of appointment.
The letter of offer for Associate Chair is drafted by the department using the faculty member's current academic salary and sent to Susan Sires (Susan.Sires@Colorado.EDU) via e-mail. It is reviewed by the associate dean and by Faculty Affairs for accuracy. Once approved, the department is notified via e-mail that the letter, attached to the e-mail, is ready to be printed, signed by the chair, and sent to Susan for the Dean and Associate Vice Chancellor's signatures. (Because current faculty are hired into positions such as chair, associate chair, etc., back up documentation such as vitae are not necessary.) The letter is sent back to the program assistant for acceptance by the candidate, and then the original is sent back to Susan. A copy is sent by the Dean's office to the program assistant and to the HR Center for entry into PeopleSoft, and the original is sent to Faculty
