Notes from May 15, 2003 Assistants Meeting
- Thursday, May15, 2003
- 10:30 - noon, UMC 457
Jennifer Law from Kinesiology and Applied Physiology asked for volunteers for the campus Wellness Program. If you are interested please call her at 2-1093.
Kathy Phillips and Kaye Orten provided a quick overview of the capabilities of two different methods for checking financial and payroll information: PeopleSoft Lite and Fishnet, respectively. There is training available for both. For PS Lite, contact Kathy at Kathy.Phillips@Colorado.EDU or call her at 492-1403. For Fishnet Training, check out the website for Information Resource Management (IRM) at: http://www.cu.edu/irm/frame_toc.html?/irm/about_irm/. On the left hand side of the page, click on "CIW." This takes you to a place where you may either sign up for CIW access or for Fishnet information and training.
Cynthia Husek announced that the deans will begin meeting Friday (today) to discuss faculty merit recommendations. It is likely that faculty raises will not go into effect until January, 2004. College budget cut recommendations have been given to the Provost, but nothing will be determined until the state legislature makes its decision on the budget, which will not be until June. Cynthia also spoke about departments' operating expense algorithms. Changes have been made based on a variety of variables. Departments with cuts in the operating budget already have been notified. Since some cuts are quite large, the changes will be made over two years. Likewise, departments that are receiving an increase also will see the change take place over two years.
The next Assistants' meeting will take place Thursday, June 19, 10:30 AM - noon, in the Old Main Chapel. Dean Todd Gleeson will be the main speaker. His topic will be the reorganization of A&S departments and the creation of Financial Service Centers in response to the "State of the Staff Report." The reorganization will ease the workload in departments and allow people who specialize in accounting to do the financial and payroll work. The State of the Staff Report can be found on the web at: http://www.colorado.edu/ArtsSciences/facultystaff/index.html.
Susan Phillips spoke briefly on the topic as a way of introduction to the process. All interested staff are welcome to attend the June 19 meeting, but department offices are to remain open.
