Academics and Research

Student in museum research

Four new Professors of Distinction in the College have been named and honored for 2007. These are extraordinarily accomplished examples of the many fine faculty in the College that pursue their scholarship, their teaching and mentoring, and their service in a balanced and highly productive manner. Please have a look at the achievements of these faculty at our Professor of Distinction page, as well as the 2006 honorees. And join us for a reception for the 2007 honorees on December 3rd. The College of Arts and Sciences offers a multidimensional, multidisciplinary liberal arts education encompassing academics and research. In the College, a driving force and a source of vitality and excitement, is the co-existence of research and education.

The "dual mission" realized by academics and research allows our faculty to continue research in a field of study, and allows students to participate in a working relationship in a highly specialized environment. Whether in the natural or physical sciences, one of the humanities such as theatre, or one of the social sciences, students and faculty work together to create exclusive and exciting education experiences that benefit society as a whole.

Our students enter the world fully equipped to assume leadership and service roles by virtue of the opportunities available as students in Boulder.

The College has no single identity. Rather, academic departments in the arts and humanities, natural and social sciences span a full spectrum of fields and interests of our students and faculty. In the left hand column, link "Academic Programs" to visit the websites of all A&S departments, and "Research Centers and Creative Institutes," to experience first-hand the variety of offerings within the College. Information can be found on academic advising, undergraduate programs, faculty, and special programs.
