Academic Support Programs Many departments within the College of Arts & Sciences offer support in addition to University-sponsored support such as free tutoring for students living in residence halls and the study strategies workshop series through SASC. This list may not be exhaustive and students may want to contact the department of the course concerned. Chemistry/Biochemistry The academic support/assistance program offered in the CHEM/BCHM dept is the "General Chemistry Help Room". The TAs and instructors staff this service throughout the day on weekdays. The help room is located in EKLC M196; the hours are announced during the first lecture and the hours are posted on the door. The help room is open to all students in the general chemistry classes. There is no cost to the student and students need only show up during the posted hours to receive help with electronic homework, labs, and lecture material. Economics The Economics Dept. offers FREE, drop-in tutoring for any student enrolled in Economics courses. Tutoring is offered Monday-Friday at various hours. Schedule is posted at www.colorado.edu/Economics under Undergraduate. We also have "for-hire" tutoring available for a fee. The department provides a list of tutors but students contact them directly to make arrangements. Tutor list and prices are posted at www.colorado.edu/Economics under Undergraduate. The Main Office for the Economics Department can be reached at (303) 735-5500. Spanish and Portuguese Practice your language skills in an informal setting. For Spanish, we offer "La Mesa Espanola," and for Portuguese we offer "Bate-Papo." Times vary each semester. Please check our website at: www.colorado.edu/Spanish. German and Slavic Language and Literature (GSLL) Practice your language skills: For German, we offer "Stammtisch," for Russian, we offer "Russian Tea." and for Nordic Studies, we offer "Scandinavian Coffee Hour." ALTEC Please visit the ALTEC website: http://altec.colorado.edu/ ALTEC provides a variety of services to students of foreign languages at the University of Colorado-Boulder. At ALTEC, students can view foreign language films, listen to language practice tapes, download and record digital audio files, and much more. ALTEC facilities include computers which enable students to do word processing in foreign languages, multi-media classrooms with state of the art equipment, and a library of films from around the world. ALTEC sponsors the Foreign Language Technology Program (FLTP), a series of non-credit workshops for graduate students and faculty on incorporating technology into foreign language teaching. We are located on the first floor of Hellems, just south of Norlin Quad. Mathematics Undergraduate Mathematics Resource Center is open to any undergraduate enrolled in an undergraduate course through the Math Department. It is located in Math 175. The hours of the Undergraduate Mathematics Resource Center are as follows: Monday-Thursday 8am-6pm; Friday 8am-2pm. It is a free service available to students. Students just show up to Math 175 during the Center's open hours. If students have questions, call the Main Dept. of Mathematics office at (303) 492-7664. Physics The physics department offers the Physics Help Room at no cost to students taking intro-level courses. It is located in Duane G2B90 and open M-F 9-5. We offer writers from across disciplines and skill levels the opportunity to work one-on-one with consultants trained in writing pedagogy. Writing Center sessions strive to address writers' stated needs while attending to relevant disciplinary, rhetorical, grammatical, and stylistic concerns. Consultants provide feedback and advice geared toward promoting writers' abilities to communicate successfully and think critically in the complex and changing environments of the university, the workplace, and society.
