Arts and Sciences Faculty Positions Notice

Experimental Cinema Artist:

The Film Studies Program at the University of Colorado, Boulder is searching for qualified candidates for a tenure-track position in cinema production. We anticipate hiring at the assistant professor level. However, applications at other levels will be considered from those who would strengthen the Department's diversity. The Film Studies Program has a longstanding record of supporting innovation in the art of cinema; the late Stan Brakhage taught for over twenty years at CU-Boulder within the Film Studies area. Film Studies offers degrees in filmmaking (BFA) as well as critical studies (BA); the BFA is focused on the art of independent filmmaking, and the BA emphasizes the critical study of film as an art form. We have recently added to our offerings an interdisciplinary MFA degree in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History. Qualified candidates for this position should demonstrate a high level of artistic achievement in moving image art production. Requirements for the position include a terminal degree in the field or demonstration of a strong professional background as an artist/filmmaker and educator; a record of outstanding creative work in the expressive use of the moving image as demonstrated in the quality of screenings and exhibition venues; and a record of college teaching experience. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in relevant filmmaking technology including its integration with digital technology. Teaching responsibilities will include class development, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, serving on graduate thesis committees, and participating in university service. Candidates should submit their vita; a letter of application outlining their creative interests, reasons for their interest in this position, and a description of their teaching philosophy; and three letters of reference.
