Eaton Faculty Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities, Arts and Music

2008 Award Winners

2007 Award Winners

Three $1500 awards will be presented annually to Humanities, Arts, and Music faculty whose scholarly or creative work in the previous year has made a significant contribution to CHA’s stated mission:

  • serves as a focus for humanistic scholarship and artistic creation in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Music, and across the Boulder campus
  • promotes critical reflection on and exploration of the significance of the humanities and the arts for the CU community, Colorado, and the larger world
  • encourages discourse between humanists and artists, on the one hand, and other CU academics, on the other

The Eaton Faculty Awards are funded by Leslie and Woody Eaton, who have made many important contributions to the Humanities and Arts, and to the University of Colorado at Boulder.  The aim of the Eaton Faculty Awards is to celebrate excellence in scholarship and creative work in the Humanities, Arts, and Music.  We particularly welcome applications from faculty whose work is interdisciplinary, interdepartmental, and/or encourages cross-campus dialogue.

Faculty members may apply for an Eaton Faculty Award through application, or may be nominated by another CU faculty member.  An application must include one work which was published, realized, or performed in the award period (January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2007).  The award is for one work, not for a body of work developed over a number of years.  The work can be a book, an article, a play, a dance, a performance, a sound recording, an exhibit, a showing, etc.

Eligibility:

  • Instructors (at least 0.5 FTE) and Senior Instructors
  • Tenure track and tenured faculty
  • Only one application per faculty member per year is permitted.

Application: Please submit the following:

  • An application letter, which includes personal statement indicating the significance of this project as it fits the CHA mission – 500 words maximum
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • The “work” itself (the book, article, evidence of performance, CD, DVD, exhibit, showing, etc.), or a record of it in the form of photographs, video, etc.

Deadline:

  • Deadline for applications is noon, Friday, January 23, 2009
  • Work submitted must be performed / published between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2007
  • Work-in-progress is not eligible

Announcement of Winners:

  • Winners will be announced in early April. Each awardee will receive a $1500 research stipend.
