Drawing on the class readings, discuss and analyze the contrast between what you think the American West will look like in 2040 and what you think it should like in 2040. Can the West collectively manage its land, water, resources, recreation and wilderness areas, and its diverse people in order to protect the very things that make it a unique American region and regional culture? How do the current contradictions facing the American West help limit and shape its future? Do you think in the next thirty-odd years that citizens of the American West can resolve some of these contradictions and "create a society to match the scenery”?
