Anglo-European/American values

1. Christians are superior to heathens. Indians
are savages who need to be given religion.

2. Hierarchical order of life--God, Angels,
human beings, animals, plants, rocks...

3. Social life organized around hierarchies. There
are cultural, religious, and racial hierarchies that
determine one's place in society.

4. Hierarchies justify racism and inequality. For
example, Whites were superior to Blacks and
Indians; Protestants were superior to Catholics,
Jews, and Muslims.

5. Humans are unique. Only humans have souls.
They are separate from and above nature.

6. Nature--animals, plants, 'rocks--did not have
souls. Nature and the Earth were to be conquered
and exploited by humans.

7. Time is linear and a commodity. Time moves
from the past to the `future; it is not cyclical.
Individuals shouldn't waste time; they should
try to use their limited time to its fullest.

8. Individuals are separate from their communities.

9. Measure of a community's success is based on
individual wealth and success.

10. Individual status is based on the accumulation
of property and material wealth.

11. Societal and spiritual success were measured
by economic success.

12. Believed in private property. Individuals should
own and improve land.


13. Believed in European cultural, religious, and
economic superiority. Refuse to accept and live in
a culturally pluralistic world.

14. Believed they are destined to order, remake,
and civilize the Earth.
