Dr. Lewis' Rules of College Classroom Etiquette

Thou Shall:

  1. Treat every class as an important learning experience
  2. Come to class with an open mind, ready to learn
  3. Do the assigned readings before each class
  4. Look at the assigned webpage for that day's class
  5. Come to class with pens and paper
  6. Attend class on a regular basis
  7. Turn off your cell phone when you enter class
  8. Focus your attention on the lecture and class discussion
  9. Take notes on the important themes and ideas in
    each class
  10. Respect your fellow students and the professor

Thou Shall Not:

  1. Assume this college class should be entertaining or easy
  2. Answer cell phones or text message in class
  3. Surf the web or answer or send e-mail during class
  4. Come and go during class to use the restroom or
    get a drink of water
  5. Talk to, prod, or pass notes to your fellow students
  6. Disrespect or minimize your fellow students'
    opinions during class participation
  7. Read a course textbook, study class notes, or study a day planner
  8. Come to class while sick
  9. Sleep in class
  10. Leave early from class
