Elements of a Basic Flash Website

  1. Your Flash site plays on an "html" webpage
that you have linked to from your portfolio page.

  2. Your Flash site plays and works on
any computer with Flash Player 7.

  3. Your Flash site plays once or twice but does
    not loop continuously.

  4. All the Flash animations are tested and work
so that they will run smoothly each time.

  5. Your Flash site contains "clickable buttons"
    that link to websites.

  6. Your Flash site should use motion, action,
sound, and tweening to create a dynamic
    website.

  7. Your Flash movie should include a copyright
notice, author, institution, how to reach you,
dates created and last modified, and a URL
address for that specific Flash movie page.

  8. If your Flash site contains linked buttons
they should be tested and take the viewer
    to a specific URL address.

  9. Your Flash site should have a website title
that tells the user what its goal is and what the movie is about.

  10. If your Flash site takes a long-time to download, it
should have a pre-loader that tells the user how
long it will take to download.

  11. Make your Flash site easy to navigate and understand by using consistent navigation
    buttons.

  12. Make your Flash site easy to use, intuitive, and
full of rich content. Try to balance the need for
a cool experience with rich information.

  13. Always give the user the opportunity to "Skip
the Movie" and go directly to non-dynamic
html pages in your Flash website.

  14. Always give the user the opportunity to turn
on and off the sound in a Flash Movie.

  15. Use sound, images, and action to provide information in your Flash site.

  16. Try not to make your basic Flash movie in your
Flash site run more than two minutes.

  17. Try to make your Flash movie not run too
fast or in a jumpy, discontinuous manner.

  18. Always use Flash to support the larger goals
of your website. For example, do you want to
sell shoes or cars or provide information.

  19. Keeping in mind that Flash movies create
an experience for the user, try to create a
Flash site that creates a "good experience."

  20. Try to make sure that your Flash site is
easily updatable and contains current information.
One way to make it look current is changing
some of the basic elements in the movie so that
the user will see that it has been updated.
