Groups team up, ship supplies to Cuba

May 21, 2006

The Boulder Cuba Sister City Organization, in partnership with Denver nonprofit Project Cure, is collaborating with local groups to raise money to ship a 40-foot container of medical supplies and equipment to Guantánamo Province, where Boulder's sister city Yateras is located.

Mark Arnoldy, a University of Colorado student, organized an effort with CU's Environmental Center to recycle equipment and supplies from the CU dorms. Money raised by the recycling effort will be donated to Project Cure for the medical shipment.

Aji restaurant in Boulder also will host a benefit dinner for the Sister City Organization from 4 to 9 p.m. today. A percentage of each bill will be donated to the effort.

This Sister City/Project Cure initiative grew out of an earlier collaboration with Boulder Community Hospital.
