Rechung Phuk

The monastery is associated with the cave of Rechungpa (1083-1161) (now identified with Tulsig Rimpoche of Tupten Choling monastery in Nepal) one of Milarepa's two major disciples.  Three hundred years later it became the home of Tsangnyon Heruka, "the Crazy One from Tsang" (1455-1529), known for his outrageous behavior.   He also was the author of the collections of the songs of Milarepa.  There are some 8 monks currently in residence.  All that remains of the former large monastery is a small cluster of buildings around Rechungpa's cave, which is below the ruins.
