Katsel One of the geomantic "demoness-subduing temples" established by Songsen Gampo, on the advice of his wife, the Tang princess Wencheng. The monastery of Katsel pins the demoness down at her right shoulder. Elsewhere Yeru Tsangdram (right hip), Rulak (left hip) and Tradruk (left shoulder) further the task. The Jokhang essentially drives a stake through her heart. Katsel was extensively damaged during the Cultural Revolution but has been restored and now is the home of some 30 monks.
