Jal Vinayek

Jal is one of the valley's most important Ganesh shrines. The triple roofed structure dates back to 1602, but the site has certainly been sacred for much longer. Jal Vinayek is located just below the narrow gorge in the southern end of the valley where Manjusri is said to have cut the valley with his divine sword. Like many other Ganesh temples, the central image is simply a huge rock that bears a likeness to the elephant image of Ganesh. The Ganesh appears on some of the struts of the roof, as well as several erotic depictions, too.
