Robert Seyfarth’s research in social behavior, communication and cognition of nonhuman primates is notable for its combination of observational and experimental work in nature with laboratory analyses of hormonal and genetic variables. One focus is the analysis of cognitive mechanisms that function in complex social interactions and the adaptive value of social relationships. Current focus includes examinations of populations of baboons, geladas, bonobos and hyenas. Robert is a fellow and President of the ABS, and an elected member of the American Academy of Arts & Science.
